Le Clou is a single parcel wine and it shows.

Named after a specific lieu-dit in Nantoux, this is Philippe Germain's most serious expression of Hautes Cotes de Beaune rouge. Where the village wine is fresh and approachable, Le Clou is built for depth. At 13.5% it has the ripeness and concentration that come from a carefully selected parcel and a little more time in oak.

Dark cherry, blackberry and dried flowers on the nose with a spicy oak note and a hint of undergrowth that tells you this is Burgundy. On the palate it is fuller and more structured than the village wine, with ripe dark fruit, firm but polished tannins and a long complex finish that keeps revealing itself in the glass.

Open it now with roasted red meat, duck or aged cheese. Or give it two to three more years and let it become something even better.

Domaine Philippe Germain

Domaine Philippe Germain is gevestigd in Nantoux, een klein dorp in de Hautes-Côtes de Beaune op enkele minuten van Meursault, Beaune en Pommard. Wat in 1995 begon als een familiedomein van 9 hectare is uitgegroeid tot 22 hectare onder leiding van Philippe Germain en zijn neef Maxime Champaud, goed voor zo'n 120.000 flessen per jaar verspreid over een breed scala aan witte en rode Bourgognes. Het domein beschikt over Terra Vitis- en HVE-niveau 3-certificering en werkt zonder herbiciden, pesticiden of insecticiden.
