Germany does not do Syrah. Until now.
The Dr. Josef Kohr Syrah is the first of its kind from this estate, and it arrives with a statement. Three years in new French oak barrels. Deep ruby red in the glass. Blackberry, black plum and black pepper on the nose with vanilla and clove underneath, all the complexity you would expect from a wine that has had time to become exactly what it wants to be.
On the palate it is full bodied, dark and serious, with high tannins and a long smoky finish that lingers long after the glass is empty. This is not a casual Tuesday wine. This is the bottle you open when the occasion deserves something bold and memorable.
Syrah at 14.5% from one of the sunniest regions in Germany. The warm Pfalz climate gives the grape the ripeness it needs, and three years of oak ageing give it the depth to match.
Pair it with grilled red meat, lamb, game or a strong aged cheese. Or just open it and give it the attention it deserves.

Dr. Josef Köhr
Weingut Dr. Josef Köhr has farmed the same corner of the Pfalz since 1648, making it one of Germany's most historically rooted family estates. Under the current generation, red varieties now make up half the range, oak ageing has been extended, and a new Syrah signals a producer with one eye firmly on the future. Sixteen hectares at the foot of the Pfälzerwald, farmed with the confidence that comes from nearly 400 years of unbroken knowledge.
