The Ried Eichkogel is a UNESCO recognised biosphere and the Schup family owns it as a monopole, meaning no other producer makes wine from this specific site.

The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon spent 36 months in small oak barrels before bottling and has now had a further years in bottle. Strong ruby garnet with violet edges. Intense dark fruit on the nose, delicately layered with an echo of chocolate. Dense and well defined on the palate. It is already round and juicy, meaning you can drink it now. It does have the depth that rewards patience. Do open it in advance and get some help from a decanter.

Winzer Familie Gregor Schup

Winzerfamilie Gregor Schup has farmed the vineyards of Guntramsdorf in the Thermenregion for over 300 years. What began as a 1.5-hectare holding has grown to 30 hectares under Gregor V, with the sixth generation now active in the estate. The family owns the Eichkogel monopole, a UNESCO-recognised biosphere reserve with a unique microclimate, and specialises in both the indigenous varieties of the Thermenregion and Burgundy-inspired whites and reds shaped by French experience and local limestone soils.
