Spätburgunder is the German name for Pinot Noir, and the Pfalz is one of the best places in the world to grow it. Warm sunny days, cool nights and ancient soils produce a red that is fruit forward, elegant and far more interesting than most people expect from Germany.

Pour a glass and you get cherry, raspberry and a whisper of liquorice with a subtle earthiness underneath. On the palate it is juicy and smooth, with ripe tannins that never get in the way and a clean finish that makes it effortlessly easy to drink.

Versatile enough for almost anything on the table. Red meat, duck, pasta, lamb or even salmon. The kind of red that works on a weeknight and a special occasion without overthinking it.

Dr. Josef Köhr

Weingut Dr. Josef Köhr has farmed the same corner of the Pfalz since 1648, making it one of Germany's most historically rooted family estates. Under the current generation, red varieties now make up half the range, oak ageing has been extended, and a new Syrah signals a producer with one eye firmly on the future. Sixteen hectares at the foot of the Pfälzerwald, farmed with the confidence that comes from nearly 400 years of unbroken knowledge.
