Monthelie is Burgundy's most overlooked village. La Combe Danay is its best kept secret.
This named climat sits on mineral-rich soils that produce Pinot Noir of real intensity and structure, the kind that Monthelie's more famous neighbours charge twice the price for. At 14% the 2023 has the ripeness and depth to reward patience, but it is already showing beautifully now.
Intense red and black fruit on the nose with spice, mineral notes and a hint of violet that is distinctly Burgundian. On the palate it is expressive and concentrated, with firm tannins and a long spiced finish that builds and builds.
A wine for serious occasions and serious food. Lamb, game, duck or a truffled dish. Or lay it down for five years and open something extraordinary.
