Le Clou is a single parcel wine and it shows.

Named after a specific lieu-dit in Nantoux, this is Philippe Germain's most serious expression of Hautes Cotes de Beaune rouge. Where the village wine is fresh and approachable, Le Clou is built for depth. At 13.5% it has the ripeness and concentration that come from a carefully selected parcel and a little more time in oak.

Dark cherry, blackberry and dried flowers on the nose with a spicy oak note and a hint of undergrowth that tells you this is Burgundy. On the palate it is fuller and more structured than the village wine, with ripe dark fruit, firm but polished tannins and a long complex finish that keeps revealing itself in the glass.

Open it now with roasted red meat, duck or aged cheese. Or give it two to three more years and let it become something even better.

Domaine Philippe Germain

Domaine Philippe Germain is based in Nantoux, a small village in the Hautes-Côtes de Beaune just minutes from Meursault, Beaune and Pommard. What began as a 9-hectare family estate in 1995 has grown to 22 hectares under Philippe Germain and his nephew Maxime Champaud, producing around 120,000 bottles a year across a wide range of white and red Burgundies. The domaine holds Terra Vitis and HVE level 3 certification, farming without herbicides, pesticides or insecticides.
